Description

Going Pro: Are You R01-Ready?

Often, and sooner than you may think, it will be time to step up your game and compete for the pros – the NIH R01. Dr. Katherine Hartmann, who has been the coach for more than 75 players who’ve made the step up from training programs to the pros, will bring grant writing chops and candor to talking about how the game is played, dissecting what it takes to compete, and staying focused on the win.

Katherine E. Hartmann, MD, PhD
Associate Dean, Clinical and Translational Scientist Development
Deputy Director, Institute for Medicine & Public Health
Director, Graduate Studies in Epidemiology
Professor, Obstetrics & Gynecology and Medicine

Katherine E. Hartmann, MD, PhD, is a clinician and epidemiologist with experience in large cohorts, behavioral interventions, clinical trials, assessment of medical tests, and teaching quantitative methods. As an obstetrician-gynecologist, much of her primary research focuses on getting answers that matter to women and their care providers related to adverse pregnancy outcomes, uterine fibroids, pelvic floor disorders, and thyroid disease. She also serves in cross cutting roles in policy-relevant areas including health services, health outcomes, evidence-based practice, systematic reviews, cost analysis, informed medical decision-making, and comparative effectiveness. Dr. Hartmann enjoys coaching others as they launch their research careers and serve as the director of a doctoral training program as well as the associate dean for clinical and translational scientist development at Vanderbilt. She is also a wife, mother of four, a dedicated fitness freak (her words), a competitive athlete, and a foodie who thrives being home in Nashville with family, friends, and their tribe of rescued greyhounds!

The Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) is here to sharpen your science by helping to facilitate all of the processes that make up research and innovation. As needs arise—for a program, resource, collaboration, or conversation—we create solutions to help meet them. We strive to be flexible, efficient, and effective in helping you work through the details of your projects, every step of the way. Your science should be inspiring. We can help.

The CCTS is funded by a Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) from the National Center for Advancing Transactional Sciences, National Institutes of Health, and grant . We are one of more than 50 CTSA programs nationwide. Established in 2008, the CCTS Partner Network, which spans 11 academic research institutions in three Deep South states (AL, MS, LA), is the foundation of our collaborative efforts.
